Oh so awesome.
Last night Nick and I attended the aformentioned show at the Trocadero Theater. Aside from opening the doors an hour and a half later than they said they were going to, the show itself exceeded my expectations. Midnight Juggernauts, a three-piece honest-to-goodness band from Melbourne opened with the drummer ominously (and badassly) beating two bass drums (I think? I am not any kind of drum expert). They played all their hits (pretty much their entire debut album, Dystopia) and a few that I didn’t—or couldn’t—recognize. They were distorted as hell but they put on a great show.
After a short intermission Justice were revealed from behind a rising screen. The proceeded to electrorock the house with a semi continuous mix of a bunch of their songs and remixes. The energy was amazing and I enjoyed every second of it. I think the most surreal part was that these guys were playing dance music as rock. The crowd reacted just like they would’ve for any headlining rock band. There was very little dancing. It was a little weird.
A possible topic for a future post: Popped-Collared Frat Boys: What in the hell are they doing here?
If you’ll excuse me, I think I’m going to take a quick powernap.
