A couple of weeks ago Scott Adams (of Dilbert fame) posted an interesting entry in his blog.
In it he says:
“In order to be happy, you must be successful in all three of these areas:
1. Relationships
2. Health
3. IncomeRealistically, you will only have time to accomplish any two of those goals while bitching about the third. The day isn’t long enough to do them all.”
There are exceptions to everything, but I think that by and large this is pretty true. For instance, over the past few weeks I’ve been going out more often (Relationships+) in the evenings at the expense of sleep and exercise (Health-). My Income is pretty much a constant the whole time, so it’s really just the other two variables that fluctuate. This week I spent more time at the apartment (Relationships-), but I also spent more time preparing healthful meals and exercising (Health+).
I guess that the only thing that you can do is try to find a happy medium (I suppose that the ideal would be for two or all three to suffer equally but only to the extent that it is tolerable and you’re still happy.)
Which area of your life is suffering the most right now at the expense of the other two?
